Ryder vs Sirotkin in WBA title eliminator
The WBA Super-Middleweight title eliminator will finally be decided when #3 rated John Ryder (26-4, 14KO) faces undefeated #5 rated Andrew Sirotkin (15-0, 4KO).
Ryder (30), is a former WBA/IBF International champion. Many believed his career was virtually over following his 2017 lost to Rocky Fielding. However, after two big wins, he has worked his way back into title contention.
“The Gorilla” is coming off knockout victories over top opponents Jamie Cox and Patrick Nielsen.
Sirotkin (33), currently holds the WBA Inter-Continental title. Although unknown to most boxing fans, he manages a ranking within the top ten.
The Russian fighter is a slick southpaw and even with the high ranking, this will be a step up in competition.
A victory here could lead to a title shot opportunity for the winner.
INTERESTING FACTS
Ryder has fought virtually in every stadium in the UK. Including two fights at Wembley Arena on the under-cards of George Groves in 2013 and 2017. His four losses were all minor title fights.
Sirotkin has never faced a ranked opponent or fought in the U.K. He currently holds minor titles for the WBO/WBC and WBA.
Once the WBA World title fight between George Groves vs Callum Smith concludes, the winner of this eliminator will be waiting for a shot at the title.
This contest is the main event at Copper Box Arena in London on October 27, live on Sky Sports and DAZN in the U.S
