The WBO has issued a verdict on the Saunders situation!
The former WBO middleweight champion has received the final verdict on his failed VADA drug test. A six month suspension with an additional three months before being reinstated in the rankings is the punishment for Saunders.
The same week where he had been initially scheduled to defend his title against Demetrius Andrade, he vacated his belt. Promoter Frank Warren claims the decision was made in order to fight the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission’s decision not to license his fighter.
As the situation stands now, it’s uncertain if Saunders will look to regain his title or move in another direction. Andrade, now the WBO champion, is open to fighting Saunders anyway.
Nevertheless, there are rumors he may move to super middleweight to fight Gennady Golovkin who’s considering his options as well. The two have been eyeing each other for about three years now, however, a bout today wouldn’t be for a title as before.
3kingsboxing.com will provide updates on Saunders’ status as more information materializes.
