Billy Joe Saunders seeks to spoil Canelo Alvarez v Caleb Plant plans!

On May 8, WBO Super Middleweight champion Billy Joe “Superb” Saunders (30-0, 14KOs) will look to pull off a massive upset when takes on unified WBA, WBC and Ring magazine Super Middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (55-1-2, 37KOs).

The consensus heading into this fight is that Canelo should and will win, and move on to an undisputed super middleweight clash with IBF champion Caleb Plant in September . However, don’t tell Saunders that! The two-division world champion has plans to throw a wrench into those talks and disrupt those machinations.

He told Eddie Hearn the following on the matter on iFL TV:

“Well you know, only yourself Eddie talking about that fight, and Canelo’s camp. You tell me more about it. I’ll be looking to put a spanner in the works for that. Same as I did with previous champions when they were talking about other fights. They gotta beat me first.”

BIG TASK AT HAND!

As talented a fighter as he is, Saunders will have to raise his game to undemonstrated heights and levels as a professional fighter. The southpaw will be in with, by far, the best and most accomplished fighter he has ever fought, at least professionally. Will he be able to make it competitive, let alone pull off the upset? We will have to wait and see on May 8.

To his credit, he seems to be taking this fight very seriously as he knows a win would catapult him to bigger and better opportunities in the future. That includes a possible showdown with Caleb Plant for all the titles at 168.
