Savannah Marshall Wants Claressa Shields After Her Next Fight!
Let WBO middleweight champion Savannah “The Silent Assassin” Marshall (10-0, 8 KO’s) tell it, now is the perfect time to face her rival Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (11-0, 2 KO’s). The two have had their names irreversibly twisted together since their amateur days. Marshall, being the only person to best Shields for pay or pro bono, has remained a hallmark talking piece when discussing T-Rex. The UK native is now ready to double-back to attempt a repeat performance.
Some might think it to be a cardinal sin to be thinking about a dustup with Shields. That’s because first, on October 16, Marshall will face the undefeated Lolita Muzeya (16-0, 8 KO’s). The bout with her Zambian foe will stand as the second defense of her WBO title. The first came six months prior on April 10, when she overwhelmed Maria Lingberg with a third round TKO. Marshall initially snagged the vacant title after becoming the first woman to stop Hannah Rankin on October 31, 2020.
THE WAIT IS OVER
As she explained to Sky Sports, an early 2022 showdown with Shields makes perfect sense. The three-division champion has recently made her successful professional debut in MMA. Shields even has a MMA fight line up for later this year. This is why Marshall feels their schedules are synching up nicely for an early next year contest.
“Yeah so I think we are both fighting on the same billing in December and then we’re on a massive collision course next year. I think because there is history there with me and her and it’s went on for a long time. And the way that our careers have went. Obviously I won the wells and she went on to win the Olympics and then we never ever came close again.”
“And I think I she’d be the first to tell you because I always got beat! But in the pro’s we’re both unbeaten and I’ve got that win over her. I think it’s 100 [%] that the fight will happen. That fight will happen. Like I said, now more than ever we’re both singing from the same hymn sheet.”
STAY FOCUSED
Provided that Marshall can topple Shields again there is not question that her star power would shoot into the stratosphere. To collect the scalp a three-division champion, two of which were undisputed would be immeasurably beneficial. Yet, once again, before she can busy herself with thoughts of Shields, she must first take care of business with Lolita Muzeya.
So, let’s see how that plays out, then we can worry about a spring duel of bitter rivals!
