Eddie Hearn is looking to make Claressa Shields v Savannah Marshall in October

There are times in boxing when social media beef and rival grudges stemming from the amateur days seldom get settled in the ring. Bringing us to the two-divisional undisputed champion Claressa “T-rex” Shields (11-0, 2ko), and WBO middleweight champion Savannah “Silent Assassin” Marshall (10-0, 8ko). These two champions have been destined to fight each other at the professional level since their amateur dust-up. The self-proclaimed G.W.O.A.T (Greatest Woman Of All-Time) Shields still has that nagging itch to avenge her sole boxing defeat.

Marshall has been up for fighting her former amateur foe since turning professional back in 2017. She has made it clear that Shields could not stand up to her power. Furthermore, Marshall captured the WBO Middleweight title once held by Shields by dominating former foe in Hannah Rankin back in October 2020.

After the fight, the Silent Assassin took a sharp jab at Shields’ success in the middleweight division.

“The only reason Claressa has the [middleweight] belts is because she got there before me, not because she’s better than me!”

Of course, the two-divisional undisputed champion had a clapback of her own. Shields responded ferociously on the topic of fighting Marshall during a post-fight interview after relieving Marie-Eve Dicaire of the IBF Junior Middleweight championship back in March 2021.

“Savannah can’t fuck with me, You won a lucky decision when we were kids. She knows she can’t fuck with me. I will go to the UK and fuck her up.”

THIS FIGHT COULD FINALLY HAPPEN

Equally important, Shields will be making her MMA debut on June 10 against Brittney Elkin (3-6), and she has expressed that boxing is still part of the plan.

Matchroom Boxing/DAZN promoter Eddie Hearn is a hawk when there is the potential of a big-money fight. He went on social media to address the fans and revealed some good news of the fight possibly becoming a reality.

“We got conversations going on this week. I want to make sure we make that fight, it’s really important that fight is made. I do believe Savannah Marshall will box in July. Claressa is doing her MMA thing in June, so I think that fight will take place in October.”
