Lipinets Gets The Decision Over Davies In Must Win Situation
Former IBF junior welterweight champion Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets (18-3-1, 13KO) got the unanimous decision victory over Robbie Davies Jr. (23-5, 15KO) in a must-win situation.
In the early rounds, Samurai kept the Brit on the back foot, as he was controlling the fight with that pole-like jab. He started attacking the body to slow Davies’ movement and found a home for the right hand.
In rounds three and four, Lipinets landed hard power shots, but had his momentum stopped from a counter-left hooks. The excitement continued into round five as a bloody Davies got clipped by several power shots that put him on the canvas. Narrowly beating the count, he was able to recover and continued fighting.
Over the next couple of rounds, both guys had their moments. Lipinets, like a shark smelling blood, attacked with the jab and power shots, targeting the busted nose of his opponent. Davies did a better job of fighting off the backfoot and managed to score with counterhooks.
The eighth round brought even more drama as the Samurai attacked the body and scored two knockdowns. However, he got over-aggressive once again and was severely hurt after getting hit by a brutal left hook by Davies.
Both men showed true grit by fighting hard until the final bell. The judges scorecards were 95-92, 96-91, and 98-89 in favor of Lipinets.
