Amanda Serrano is ready to avenge her sister’s loss to Katie Taylor now!
Recently, future Hall of Famer Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano took a festering business gripe to the public court opinion.
Serrano, feeling unjustifiably toyed with, went on the offensive. Via her Twitter account, she went after Lou DiBella and Eddie Hearn, the functioning face of the DAZN platform. She charged them with of avoiding penning a fight with IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight champion Katie Taylor.
In the tweet, the seven division champion accuses DiBella and Hearn of holding an empty three fight deal in her face as bait. On one hand, she was appreciative of the contract. However, she was only willing to sign in the first place under guarantee of a shot at Taylor.
Aside from Claressa Shields, as far as media coverage goes, Katie Taylor is the next hottest commodity in female boxing. Therefore, it’s no wonder that Serrano wants a shot.
Trouble is, Serrano says that even though she agreed to the initial deal, a contract for Taylor was never sent. The situation is reminiscent of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s situation with Dillian Whyte.
With an official contractual guarantee for a shot at Anthony Joshua, he would agree to fight Whyte. The stipulation was never met, so Wilder never penned a bout with Whyte, who is also promoted by Eddie Hearn. Now, Serrano also seems be running into the same business brick wall.
Looking to the Future
While Taylor may be one of the premiere media darlings at the moment, the Puerto Rican bruiser has certainly been around the block and earned her stripes.
She has already made history by collecting world championship titles in the super flyweight, bantamweight, super bantamweight, featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight and super lightweight divisions. In fact, by the time Katie Taylor turned pro in November 2016, Serrano had already fought in six world title bouts.
In recent years, simply to challenge herself, Serrano has taken up and found success in the cage of the MMA arena.
Peeved and out of patience, “The Real Deal” is hoping that DiBella, Hearn and the boys cut out the shenanigans and supply a “real deal”…no pun intended.
Only time will tell what happens here. Currently, Taylor is on schedule to face WBC lightweight champion Delfine Persoon on June 1 to become the undisputed lightweight champion. If successful, it would be a true super fight if a contract could be hammered out for Serrano vs Taylor.
