Amanda Serrano speaks on backing out of the Katie Taylor fight
Woman’s boxing took a huge hit when it was reported that undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor (15-0, 6ko) and Interim WBC/WBO featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (38-1-1, 28ko) mega-bout was called off.
This news took social media by surprise especially considering it was a much-needed fight to help boxing’s return from the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, it was even more shocking when it was Serrano who had pulled out.
Of course the rumors started to fly int he aftermath!
Jordan Maldonado, manager for the seven division champion, sent out a press release that should have explained the reasons behind the decision to pull out of the fight.
However, some media outlets tried to put a twist on things, which lead to an immediate response from promoter Lou Dibella.
To provide even more clarity on the situation “The Real Deal” herself took to social media and made it crystal clear she isn’t for the games, in a sense confirming that she is “moving on” from the Taylor bout due to a financial disagreement. This was the very reason that was detailed in the press release DiBella called “rubbish”.
This is a massive disappointing turn of events and hopefully, something can be worked out later in the year. However as of right now, it looks like another big fight won’t happen.
The silver lining to all of this is the plot has turned twice already. Maybe a third time is the charm and the fight will be made!
