Ben Shalom Looking To Announce Liam Smith vs Chris Eubank Jr Soon

The rematch between former WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (33-3-1, 19KO) and middleweight Chris “Next Gen” Eubank Jr (32-3, 23KO) is going to happen. Smith’s promoter, Ben Shalom of BOXXER, believes this is a must-win situation for Eubank Jr.

On January 21, Smith shocked the boxing community with a knockout victory over Eubank Jr. Few fans believed he could win, but nobody thought Beefy would win by knockout. During the post-fight interview, Next Gen admitted to having a rematch clause and planned on invoking it.

On February 14, Eubank Jr took to social media to inform the fans the rematch clause had been activated. Smith was in a must-win situation as retirement talks arose during the build-up to the first fight.

In an interview with Boxing Social, Shalom said he believes that Eubank Jr is now in that same situation.

“Eubank Jr has, for me, no choice and has to win. We talked about [a] must-win fight last time. Eubank Jr was risking everything, and he lost everything.”

Some are saying Eubank Jr has no chance of winning. To this, Shalom dismisses the notion that the rematch is a forgone conclusion.

“The same people that were saying there is no way Liam Smith will knockout Eubank Jr, the same people are now saying Eubank Jr’s got absolutely no chance in this fight. You never know in boxing . . . so don’t tell me the next fight is a formality.”

The BOXXER promoter hopes to have things finalized for the rematch and make an announcement next week.
