Briggs wants Tyson in all New York showdown exhibition bout!
Reeling off a huge success in his charity bout against fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr on November 28, Mike Tyson is a wanted man! The “fight” with Jones did 1.6 million PPV buys, proving that even at the age of 54, Tyson remains a major attraction in the sport. Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs has thrown out a challenge to fellow New Yorker and former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson.
These two men, known for their explosive punching power and big personalities, would sure drum up interest for their charity bout. Briggs, who has not fought since May of 2016, where he scored a first round knockout win over Emilio Zarate, has become more of a character than a fighter that can be taken serious.
DOES THIS MATCHUP HAVE APPEAL?
As stated previously, Briggs at this point is more of a character than fighter. However, one thing that may be in his favor is the potential WWE style promotion of their fight. Being able to say outlandish things in a controlled environment may be entertaining. So while that works for him, the forever lingering possibility of a third fight between fellow legendary boxer Evander Holyfield and Tyson would trump a Briggs fight almost every time.
Regardless of what Tyson decides to do next, it is clear that he is a man with many options and major drawing power. If he wants the fight to be made, then I have no doubt it will be a done deal.
