Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall May Not Happen in 2022
The biggest fight in women’s boxing, for undisputed between unified middleweight champion Claressa “T-rex” Shields (12-0, 2KOs), and WBO champion Savannah “Silent Assassin” Marshall (12-0, 10KOs), is in jeopardy of not happening this year.
By now, boxing fans know the history between the amateur archrivals that has spilled over into the professional ranks. In 2021, Marshall revealed that a clash with T-rex was eyed for the Summer of 2022. The promotional machine was in full media blitz mode as both champions would attend each other’s fights to help promote their summer showdown.
Unfortunately, fans may be disappointed as the fight will not happen in July. During an interview with Boxing Social, the Silent Assassin revealed that, due to having surgery, she will need more time to heal.
“After me last fight, I had surgery, […] we were due to fight in July. I’m not going to be one hundred percent for July.”
“I’m asking for a four or five-week pushback. That’s what I’m asking for, back end of August, early September.”

Typically, pushing a fightback is not a problem. However, according to ESPN, Shields has claimed that doesn’t work for her as she will be gearing up for another MMA fight under the PFL banner (Professional Fight League).
“I can’t fight her in September because I’m going to be in preparation for my MMA fight.”

The way things appear, this fight could be delayed until the beginning of 2023. Shields has made it clear that she wants to compete more in the MMA circuit, but this fight with Marshall needs to be a top priority.
