Poor Stoppage Grants Callum Simpson A Win Over Steed Woodall
Super middleweight contender Callum Simpson (16-0, 11KO) got the win after a bad stoppage against Steed “The Stallion” Woodall (19-3-1, 12KO) in the second round.
Fighting off pure emotion following the death of his sister Lily-Rae, Simpson got off to a fast start with fast combination shots. His footwork, fast hands, and punch accuracy were on full display. After pinning The Stallion against the ropes, Simpson hurt his opponent with hard uppercuts.
In the second round, Woodall was on the canvas after a vicious three-punch combination. As the fight continued, he took two more hard shots, which prompted the referee to call for a stoppage.
An upset Woodall objected and rightfully so because he didn’t appear severely hurt. In the referee defense the fighter got up slow from the knockdown. Nevertheless, Woodall earned the right to continue a little longer.
In this author’s opinion, it was a bad stoppage. There is no doubt that Simpson was on track to score the knockout, but Woodall wasn’t ready to go at that moment and should have been given a chance to fight back.
