Skye Nicolson Wins WBC Belt with Decision Over Sarah Mahfoud
In her latest tour of duty, Australian fighter Skye Nicolson (10-0, 1 KO) picked up her first world title. Nicolson achieved this by soundly out-boxing and out-pointing Sarah Mahfoud (14-2, 3 KO’s) to secure the vacant WBC featherweight title.
From start to finish, the newly crowned champion used her feet to move, dictate range and sharpshoot Mahfoud all night long. In many regards, this match was a case of ‘seen one round and you’ve seen them all.’
To her credit, Mahfoud never got overly discouraged or stopped fighting to win. However, she was never able to apply any adjustments that changed the tempo or flavor of the duel.
Instead, as the rounds piled up, southpaw Nicolson became more efficient and comfortable to the point of clowning and dancing to conclude the twelfth. Her glee was rewarded with a final tally of 100-90 (twice) and 99-91 in her favor along with the vacant title.
