Sosa v Rhodes
Former WBA junior lightweight champion Jason Sosa and Lydell Rhodes fought in an important junior lightweight divisional match-up. Both fighters knew the divisional stakes at play.
The Breakdown
In the opening round, Rhodes would immediately start coming forward looking to force his foe to fight on his back foot. That strategy backfired, as Sosa would prove to be the better inside fighter.
Rounds two and three were all Sosa. He continued to throw vicious body shots that clearly started to have an effect on Rhodes.
Round five was huge for Sosa, who would drop Rhodes twice. The first came by way of a huge left hook that sent Rhodes down flat on his back. The second knockdown came by a right-hand. It looked to be a combination of a good power shot and fatigue.
After scoring his third knockdown of the fight in the seventh round, Danny Garcia, the trainer of Rhodes, would throw the towel in, saving his fighter from further unnecessary punishment.
After a dominant performance, Jason Sosa, who ranks number 5 in the WBC rankings, called out WBC junior lightweight champion Miguel Berchelt. That would be an excellent fight between two fighters with fan-friendly styles.

Excellent showing for Sosa who always puts on good TV for better or worse. Time to let him bang out with another top contender. He deserved it as a no hype type of fighter who punches his way into the picture!
I agree…he looked good but maybe not good enough for a Miguel Berchelt. I’d like to see him with a top contender first.
