Errol Spence Jr Fires Back at Ismael Salas!
From the moment that IBF and WBC welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (27-0, 21 KO’s) launched his professional career, there have been grand expectations laid on his shoulders. Right from the start, Floyd “Money” Mayweather tabbed him to be one of the hottest fighters in the sport. Once in the ring, Spence first confirmed his promise with his brutal, debilitating style of fighting.
The Truth soon proved undeniably that he was cut from a different cloth. He traveled across an ocean to stop Kell Brook and take his IBF title. It was a brilliant premiere title fight that left his detractors very little tangible arguments to levy against him. Next, Spence utterly out-boxed and out-classed Mikey Garcia in every possible way before winning an instant classic versus the ever-difficult Shawn Porter.
Yet, the unified champion began making an argument that he was super human following his bout with Danny Garcia. This prizefight was made all the more special due to his coming directly off a near fatal car accident. Rather than take on a tune-up, Spence fought Garcia as planned and once again thoroughly outclassed a world class pugilist.
ONE MORE GREAT NIGHT?!
Now, once again, Spence is daring to be great in another unification match. This time the Truth will face super WBA welterweight champion Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas (27-4, 12 KO’s) while coming straight off a serious laser eye surgery. Understandably, Team Ugas feels that all of these past calamities may have left Spence a notably diminished fighter. Equally understandably, Spence could not care less!
“Well shit, have his fighter fight Shawn Porter and then get in a car accident and fight a year and a half after that and fight a top level fighter and see if he the same fighter or not! So who is going to be the same after a year and half layoff and getting thrown from a car? No I was not the same fighter, but like I said, even half of me will beat most of these top guys at the top level.”
A HUMAN SWISS ARMY KNIFE
Going a step further, while the Truth knows Ugas is tough, Spence doesn’t think he will be prevented from shining in this contest like all the previous one’s before.
“I got it all! I got everything! You know, so whatever he brings to the table or whatever he tries to muster up, or if he try to fight, I can box, I can bang, I can do it all. I can jab, I can move, I can punch, I can sit on the inside, all that! And so I am with anything he with. But, I am going to dictate the pace and I am going to control everything and I am going to make it into my fight.”
If history serves as any indication of the future, then Errol Spence Jr just may have another historic level victory on his hands. Yet, this is boxing, where anything can and does happen. So let’s wait and watch before counting those unhatched chickens!
