Unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. has been sighted. The boxing community has been in the dark regarding the unified champion since his horrific car accident. There were speculations that the Texas champion was more hurt than everyone was lead to believe.

It was refreshing to see the unified champion out-an-about supporting fellow stablemate, and two-time WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo recapturing the title in the December 21st rematch against Tony “Super Bad” Harrison.

This was his first public appearance since the accident. Fox analyst Brian Kenny wasted no time placing a microphone in his face to get the latest update. Spence elaborated on how time was spent during the recovery period, along with an update on returning to the ring.

“Everything good. Like, everyone knows I have been in a horrible car accident, but I am feeling good. I spent a lot of time with my family, my friends and my little girls, enjoying time with them while I was off from boxing.”

The Texas champion would give thanks to the big man upstairs for surviving such a life-threatening event.

“My whole body was sore, it’s just I guess a miracle from God. He protected me during the accident cause anybody else would probably have been killed. It was a blessing from God that I was able to make it out safe and return to boxing next year.”

The gratefulness is well warranted, as it indeed is a miracle.

Furthermore, the news of him being able to return to the ring is a blessing also. Furthermore, it looks like it will be around the summer of 2020, as the unified champion explained in more detail.

“I definitely can get through this, I am fighting around May or June. So I will be back real soon, I have already started training last week. I was feeling good, I hit the mitts and everything. I had run, so I’m feeling good so I can continue to train.”

BRING ME THE BEST

Once again, PBC tried to pull the ole okie-doke. When listing the top welterweights, WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford’s name was M.I.A. However, credit to the Fox analyst for bringing up the name of the WBO champion.

This is where the boxing community can smile just a little. When asked about fighting some of the top names in the division, Spence didn’t stutter. He spoke clear and with confidence.

“I am the top dog of the division, I am the king of the welterweight division, I know those guys wish that I wasn’t back so fast, but I am coming back.

I want to fight the top names in the division. Whether it’s Manny Pacquiao, whether it’s Terence Crawford or Danny Garcia, I do want the top names and I do want to be the undisputed welterweight champion of the world.”

Spence vs Crawford has been the mega-fight the entire boxing community has been eager to see and could still be a go in 2020. Over the next couple of months, the debating of who will win will once again dominate the boxing community conversation.
