Errol Spence-Julian Williams Coming in 2020?

Following Errol Spence Jr’s split-decision unification victory over Shawn Porter, he assumed a choice set of possible opponents. Now the unified IBF and WBC welterweight champion, he is now in a position to choose from a plethora of possible opponents.

One fighter in particular that sticks out in my mind, is fellow unified champion Julian Williams. In the post fight press conference, Spence mentioned that he’d move up and fight Williams. This isn’t the first time we here at 3kingsboxing.com have reported on this. In an interview, Williams’ trainer Stephen Edwards said he would love to stage that fight. Immediately, Spence said he would fight Williams.

Both men still have plenty of business to take care of in their respective divisions. However, this fight seems like a real possibility considering both men’s willingness and desire for a big fight. Although, it appears we may get Errol Spence vs Danny Garcia next. Garcia jumped into the ring to challenge the unified champion almost immediately after the Porter fight concluded.

The intrigue in this match-up would be whether or not Spence could successfully move up and dethrone a guy who’s talented and riding high at the moment. Could Spence bully a bigger foe, or would Williams be too much for the welterweight champ?

There are a lot of questions that could be answered at some point in 2020.

3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

  1. I dont think I’m alone in thinking Errol vs Williams is far more interesting than Errol vs Garcia. It’s normal for natural welters like Errol to move up in weight once they reach a certain age. And I’m feeling like that age, that time could be now. If we aren’t going to get Errol vs Crawford, like I said we wouldn’t, then maybe its time for Errol to just move up. There are plenty of big fights for Errol at 154. And maybe Errol has better power and better movement at 154. Cutting down to 147 could be hurting Errol at this point in his career. Like I said, natural welters like Errol typically move up anyways. Errol vs J-Rock is a very interesting match up. One I’d like to see. I’d also like to see Errol retire Lara. Lara has done nothing for years except complain about being robbed vs Canelo and claiming GGG has been ducking him. Both statements are crap. Canelo beat Lara, because Lara fights like an amateur, and GGG would cut the ring off on Lara and smash him to bits. If Lara ever really wanted that fight, it was always there for him. GGG’s manager said they’d love that fight. Easy fight.
So, it looks like we’re getting Errol vs Garcia. Thats garbage….
