DC Prospect Stacey Selby looking to make noise in 2022

There is a new boxer on the professional scene that fight fans should keep an eye on named Stacey Selby (2-0, 2 KO’s). Coming out of Washington DC, Selby is a gifted athlete who carries formidable power in both hands. Despite the pop in his punches, the DC pugilist is adamant that it will be his skills that lead him to the higher echelons of the sport. It is also not very hard to believe that the amateur standout is headed for great things.

Currently Selby is training in the Upton Boxing Center under the tutelage of the infamous coach Calvin Ford. Ford is also very well known for being the chief second to the current Regular WBA World Lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. As an additional perk of honing his craft with such a connected trainer, Selby has had the chance to get in some world class sparring. So far he has been able to test his wits with fighters such as: Malik Hawkins, Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson, Keyshawn Davis, Shakur Stevenson and of course Tank Davis, among others. These experiences have further let him know that he has what it takes to make it on the big stage.

BIG PRESSURE

Another perk, and pressure, of training with Ford and Davis is the being placed on a very visible stage. For some, the pressure of having the bright lights of the media thrust upon them would be a harmful distraction. For Selby, he accepts it as something that comes with the territory and as added motivation as he told 3kingsboxing in an exclusive interview.

“It’s good, but it’s bad too because it’s like all eyes on are me. It’s like everyone is waiting on me to mess up but I don’t have no time to mess up. So it’s like with that being said, it’s like I always have to be perfect. But that is still a good thing for me because its’s all motivation for me to want to do better and better, you know what I am saying? I am always working and everything is coming and then having a backing behind me is good because it’s easy for me to showcase my skills.”

BIG DREAMS

Only time will tell if Selby can blossom into the supreme professional talent that he has the potential to be. Yet, let him tell it, you will not have to wait long before he begins making major noise in the ranks. Presently he is competing at super lightweight but has plans on moving down to lightweight in the very near future. So fight fans, definitely keep an eye out and ear open for the up and coming talent, Stacey Selby.

“This right here was my fill out year, 2022 I think will be my breakout year. That’s when we’ll start getting like them bigger fights like the 8 and 10 round fights probably. So I want say get my [sound cuts out] fights first and then we can start looking for the top ten challenges like that.”
