Steven Butler Rejuvenates His Career By Stopping Steve Rolls Early
In a battle between two Canadian middleweights, Steven “Bang Bang” Butler (34-4-1, 28KO) scored a surprising first-round knockout over Steve Rolls (22-4, 12KO). This win may put him back into the rankings in pursuit of a third title shot.
Bang Bang must have seen the co-main event end in the first round and wasn’t going to be outdone. He came forward behind a pistol-like jab, looking to take control of the fight early, fighting well off the front foot.
In addition, Butler looked more defensively sound as he managed to slip a few shots from Rolls. Then he landed a right hand that brought the crowd to its feet as Rolls fell back into the ropes.
Butler landed several punishing left hands forcing the referee save Rolls, who was slumped against the ropes. The two-time title challenger managed to do something top contender Edgar Berlanga couldn’t do in stopping Rolls.
Riding high from this victory, Butler hopes it rejuvenates his career. In the post-fight interview he yelled out to the roaring crowd: “Bang Bang is back.”
