Stevens gets the KO victory over Cruz which angers spectators!
As previously reported by 3kingsboxing, middleweight contender Curtis Stevens fought this past Saturday in Santiago de los Caballeros, Republica Dominicana.
Stevens (29-6, 21 KOs) won by knockout over Carlos Jairo Cruz, capturing the IBA Middleweight title. This was his first fight back since being stopped by David Lemieux in 2017.
Cruz (18-2, 12 KOs), was fighting in his hometown arena of Gimnasio Multìuso Nani Marrero in Santiago de los Caballeros. The hometown fans expressed their displeasure when referee Steve Smoger stopped the bout in the fourth.
The crowd started throwing plastic chairs and stormed the ring.
Gunshots rang through the air reportedly for Stevens and Smoger. This lead to even more hysteria as people were running for the nearest exit.
Local authorities showed up using tear gas to disperse the crowd.
It is not clear if the intent of the ring invaders was to hurt Stevens, Smoger or the promoter.
As more information becomes available, we will update you here at 3kingsboxing.com.
Meanwhile, Stevens improves to 30-6, 22 KOs.
