Shakur Stevenson and Oscar Valdez Sign on the Dotted Line
After chasing him over two weight divisions, WBO super featherweight champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KO’s) finally has the bout with WBC super featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23 KO’s) that he wants. As previously reported, the two had verbally agreed to an April 30 dustup in the MGM Grand located in Las Vegas. Now the two have officially signed their respective contracts and the fight is officially a go!
For his part, Stevenson is coming off the best win of his career versus Jamel Herring. Heading into the bout with Herring, the former marine was billed as Stevenson’s toughest adversary to date. Despite this, not only did Fearless perform fabulously, he even secured a tenth-round stoppage. During and after the build-up to Stevenson-Herring, Fearless was regularly asked about his desire to face Valdez. Now, all speculation can be put to bed.
A BETTER DAY COMING?
Unfortunately, the recent stretch of professional road for Valdez has not been quite as smooth. After scoring a sensational tenth round knockout of Miguel Berchelt, on February 20, 2021, the Mexican bruiser ran into a patch of turbulence. Firstly, Valdez was flagged for performance enhancing drugs. The story became substantially larger because of his trainer, Eddy Reynoso, who is also the chief second to boxing poster boy Canelo Alvarez.

Valdez was actually the fourth fighter trained by Reynoso to pop dirty. To make matters even more dire, Valdez struggled mightily in his last duel with Robson Conceicao. With those tough episodes not behind him, Valdez hopes to claim one of the biggest wins of his professional career in the upcoming unification bout. Yet no matter how it plays out, 3Kings Boxing will be there to report the news!
