Shakur Stevenson Itching to Get His Knuckles on Jamaine Ortiz

Since moving up to lightweight, two-division champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KO’s) has sought out nothing but the big fights. The New Jersey native is in love with this craft and merely wants to ply his trade with the best around. At the same time however, Stevenson is more willing to take on all customers. This is precisely why Fearless is open to penning a fight with Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (16-1-1, 8 KO’s).

The amateur standout split his last pair of fights after seriously stepping up his competition. Ortiz, 27, would first claim a unanimous decision over Jamel Herring before losing by UD to Vasiliy Lomachenko. Having wilted at the heights of competition, The Technician has proved that he is more than mere hype and has heart. Ranked #7 (WBC), and having tangled with the cream of the crop, Ortiz feels he is ready to dance with the Olympic silver medalist right now.

I’M YOUR HUCKLEBERRY!

For his part, Fearless loves the rowdy energy and invites it in. For the time being Stevenson, 25, is in pure Predator mode, looking for spines to pull-out to bolster his reputation and for kicks. This is precisely why he finds it amusing that Ortiz is pursuing him, which he shared with FightHype.

“I get excitement out of someone like Jamaine Ortiz calling me out and saying all the stuff he saying. It excites me! Soon as I seen what he said, and then I seen him at my fight, I’m like, ‘yeah, you know you done fucked up! And that’s the first thing that came to my mind.”

Ortiz has yet to fight this year, having just come off his first professional loss versus Vasiliy Lomachenko. Stevenson, on the other hand, is fresh off a six-round destruction of Shuichiro Yoshino this past April. If victorious, claiming Stevenson’s scalp would garner him major kudos. If he was to lose however, two back-to-back losses are likely to be very detrimental to his professional career and mental well-being. Thankfully though, no matter how the cards may fall, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
