Tank Davis Drops a Cryptic Post with Potential Fight Details!

With the advent of the internet, fighters are not above using social media as a way to disclose that their next fight on the horizon is close at hand. The latest fighter to apparently utilize this method is none other than WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KO’s). The 28-year-old from Baltimore made the following eye-raising social media post that suggests he’s on the verge of returning to the ring.

As is his regular habit, Davis has since deleted the post. Yet, deleted or not, it has not stopped fans from beginning their speculation on who his opponent could be.

ANNOUNCEMENT COMING SOON?

As many observers know, Davis has been in negotiations to fight rival and lightweight contender Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (23-0, 19 KO’s). Therefore, if the 135-pound champ was to fight in January in Washington, DC, the mystery opponent very well could be Garcia. For many reasons, this could merely be wishful thinking. First, its highly unlikely that Garcia’s promoter, Golden Boy, would allow that fight to happen in essentially Davis’ backyard. A fight of that magnitude and earning potential is more likely to occur in a place like Las Vegas. So while it wouldn’t be prudent to completely rule King Ry out, it might not be a bad idea to drum up another option.

There is also his one-time adversary Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KO’s). Tank and Cruz staged a memorable battle with one another back on December 5, 2021. Ahead of the dustup, common thought held that Cruz was just another bump on the road to be rundown by the freight train of Davis’s power and superior athleticism. Once in the ring however, Pitbull proved to be a heavy handful and ultimately forced Davis to win a strenuous unanimous decision. Due to the effort it took to get past him, Cruz has permeated with a new aura of respectability. As a result, many have expressed their desire to see them run it back.

While Cruz versus Davis 2 does have a nice ring to it, this bout has a few hurdles as well. This is because the WBC has ordered Cruz to trade leather with two-division champion Shakur Stevenson. At the moment, both sides have given all impressions that they will try to make that prizefight a reality without any sidestepping. Obviously, if Stevenson and Cruz do battle next, Cruz can’t also fight Tank. So, in the end, we will all have to wait and see what Tank’s cryptic post was all about. Let’s just hope that the final announcement is worth all the mystery!
