Josh Taylor thinks a fight with Terence Crawford could be sooner rather than later

Since defeating former super lightweight champion Jose Carlos Ramirez, Irish boxer Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor (18-0, 13 KO’s) has been on top of the world. In beating Ramirez, Taylor was crowned as the undisputed champion of the super lightweight division. Even though the fight was just one month ago, the talented pugilist is already hungry for his next battle. In the aftermath of his duel with Ramirez, The Tartan Tornado would go on to call out WBO World Welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (37-0, 28 KO’s).

BRING ON CRAWFORD!

Having captured all the major belts at 140, Taylor was openly flirting with the idea of moving up to challenge Crawford. The Nebraskan native has been thoroughly lambasted for his dreary competition since moving up to welterweight well back in 2018. Despite the fact that he would be making his welterweight debut, Taylor would make for Crawford’s most decorated opponent at 147 to date. Even better, according to what The Tartan Tornado told to Behind the Gloves, the Crawford fight could be closer than some think.

“I spoke to Bob [Arum] and he said in discussions about what’s next. That can happen in the next fight or two. So the discussion I have had, but I have not actually sat down and had the lengthy discussion on what’s happening yet because I been doing all this stuff and not had a minute to myself.”

“So I’ll probably speak to him [Arum] next week and see what’s happening. But that fight is easily made. We are both under the same umbrella so it’s easily made. The only discussion we’ve got to have is where the fight is. Is it in Scotland or is it in a Madison Square Garden or in Nebraska where he is from or a Vegas? That’s the only discussion to be had really.”

WHO’S NEXT?!

It would be great if the fight did come together that easily and pain-free. Unfortunately, things rarely go without mishap in the murky world of boxing business dealings. Yet, like Taylor pointed out, they both are under the same Top Rank promotional umbrella and so that should go a long way to oiling the gears of production.

Another variable that could be in The Tartan Tornados favor is the fact that Crawford does not have an official opponent at the moment. Supposedly Bud should be announcing one soon, but that was the same story when he was supposed to be getting the Pacquiao fight. So for the time being we’ll just have to cool out and wait. Regardless of who fights who next, 3kingsboxing will be there to report the news.
