The Lopez’s Likes The Idea Of Facing Jaron Ennis
IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis is on the verge of facing WBO junior welterweight champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez. In addition, trainer Teofimo Lopez Sr believes his son will win because Boots is a one-dimensional fighter.
The boxing news cycle has gone into overdrive after news hit that The Takeover (21-1, 13KO) is in talks to fight Boots (33-0, 29KO). After coming under fire for turning down a fight against Vergil Ortiz, Ennis would be facing someone with a much bigger name and accomplishments in Lopez.
Boxing fans remember the criticism that followed Lopez for claiming that he needed to fight a black fighter. However, some pundits believe he could be taking on more than he can handle.
THEY LIKE THEIR ODDS
While speaking with 210BoxingTv, Team Lopez explained why they feel confident in being able to defeat the hard-hitting Philadelphian.
“It’s at 147, that’s a beautiful weight for my son…my son has more qualities than Boots Ennis has. Boots Ennis is one-dimensional. He is a good boxer, I like his style. But, he’s just like one-dimensional we do different things.” – Teofimo Lopez Sr
After acknowledging Ennis’ punching power, the WBO champion believes it’s more about ring IQ than power.
“It’s never about power it’s here IQ.” – Teofimo Lopez
Boxing fans skepticism will remain on high alert until a final announcement is made. Yet, one has to wonder if Top Rank is hanging Lopez out to dry by looking to make such a fight. In his first bout at welterweight, they are willing to put him in such a dangerous fight.
This author is surprised Top Rank isn’t having Lopez face stablemate WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. When considering how the WBO allows champions to become mandatory challengers once entering a new division.
Nevertheless, fans are crossing their fingers in hopes this fight becomes a reality.
