Team Zepeda May Not Be Eager To Fight Stevenson Next
In an all-out war, WBC interim lightweight champion William “Camaron” Zepeda (33-0, 27KO) failed to stop a one-handed Tevin “2x” Farmer (33-8-1, 8KO). Although he won by majority decision, team Zepeda won’t be in rush to fight WBC champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (23-0, 11KO) next.
2x hurt his hand and possibly elbow which created heavy drama in the early rounds. The Philly fighter took punishment in the first half of the bout. However, he came alive and landed hard shots that hurt Zepeda a few times.
Yet, in the end, one judge scored it a draw 114-114, with two judges giving it to Camaron 116-112 and 115-113. The fight was so good that the commentary team was calling for the trilogy. A Frustrated Farmer believing he was robbed maybe walking away from the sport.
Looks down the road is a shot at Stevenson, which the Mexican has claimed is a dream fight. In this author’s opinion, the brass at Golden Boy Promotions will not rush to make that fight anytime soon.
Zepeda struggled against a wounded fighter, so fighting Fearless maybe off the table for the moment. Fearless is better than Farmer in every aspect and would embarrass the Mexican, killing his stock value.
Hopefully, the fight happens next, but boxing fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
