Teofimo Lopez Sr Adding Fresh Voices for Next Training Camp
Former unified lightweight champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez Jr (18-1, 13KO) competing at junior welterweight has not looked the same. Some fans and pundits believe it may be time for a trainer change. Lopez’s trainer, Teofimo Lopez Sr, plans on bringing a new set of eyes into camp for their next fight.
The Takeover came under heavy scrutiny after a lackluster performance against Sandor Martin in a WBC title eliminator. Furthermore, he caught no joy from fans and pundits after questioning his abilities.
LOPEZ SR TO BRING IN A NEW TEAM FOR THE NEXT CAMP
This sparked a serious conversation within the boxing community about his mental state and future in the sport. The Brooklyn native attempted to do damage control by claiming it was all a ruse.
Nonetheless, people were not buying it and some called for a much-needed change. During an interview with ESNEWS, Lopez Sr revealed wanting to bring a new team into camp to help out.
“I’m bringing a new team in for the next camp. That’s going to help us out. I’m going to announce that once the fight is announced. Once we start doing the camp, I’m going to announce who’s going to be in my camp.”
Lopez Sr has been the only voice in the ear of his son since their journey in boxing started. It will be interesting to see who is brought in and how the former unified champion adjusts to the change.
