Terence Crawford Ensures Jaron Ennis Will Get His Shot!
WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (39-0, 30) is well aware that IBF Interim titlist Jaron “Boots” Ennis (31-0, 28KO) deserves a shot at the title. However, he knows that the business of fighting unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (28-0, 22KO) for undisputed takes priority.
The welterweight division is on hold until the dusk settles between Crawford and Spence Jr, as they will collide on July 29. In addition, there is the matter of the rematch clause, which could keep anyone from challenging the winner until 2024.
One fighter that is being heavily affected by this process is Boots. The Philly native is the heavy favorite to be the division’s next Kingpin. There is a growing debate among fans inside the boxing community who believe he possesses the ability to defeat both champions right now.
CRAWFORD ACKNOWLEDGES ENNIS
While speaking with members of the media, Bud acknowledged Ennis’ time will eventually come.
“I always said Boots was a great talent. I always told everybody I supported him. I’ve been supporting him since he was in the amateurs when he was fighting Gary Russel Jr.
“I kind of see myself in him, and yes, he deserves a title shot. He deserves it all. . . his time will come. But right now, you know business is business.”
In his last outing, Ennis put on a show of offensive force against a tough Roiman Villa on July 8. Fighting in front of the hometown fans, the interim champ looked almost unbeatable in demolishing Villa en route to a ten-round stoppage.
Realizing that his shot at either Crawford or Spence won’t happen anytime soon, he is willing to fight WBA Regular champion Eimantas Stanionis.
