Terri Harper Uses Experience To Defeat Rhiannon Dixon
Terri “Belter” Harper (15-2-2, 6KO) is a three-divisional champion after taking the WBO lightweight title away from Rhiannon Dixon (10-1, 1KO).
Harper used that experience right away and fought behind a beautiful jab. She even found a home for the right hand early in the fight causing the champion to pause momentarily. Belter kept the fight in the center of the ring and nullified Dixon’s aggressiveness by holding whenever they got on the inside.
Realizing the fight was getting away from her, Dixon finally let them hands go and landed hard left and right hooks that hurt Harper. The WBO champion came roaring back in the middle rounds with eye-catching shots. She began taking advantage of her opponent’s lack of head movement.
With the fight getting close, both women went on an offensive attack that brought the crowd to its feet. Down the stretch, Harper closed the show strong by landing the harder shots. She fought well off the backfoot and landed hard shots that froze Dixon’s momentum.
When the final bell sounded two judges scored it 97-93, and one judge saw it 96-94 in favor of Harper. This had to be an extremely satisfying victory considering her career was deemed over after taking a brutal beating from Sandy Ryan on March 23.
