Tevin Farmer is clapping hard at Joseph Diaz
Former IBF Junior Lightweight champion Tevin “American Idol” Farmer (30-5-1, 6ko) is on social media going hard at former champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz (31-1-1, 15ko) after the California fighter lost the championship on the scales.
When arch-rival Gervonta Davis lost the championship on the scale, it set things up for Farmer to finally get a chance at becoming a champion. However, in a fight against Kenichi Ogawa, the judges delivered bad scorecards denying the American Idol a victory. Farmer would get a chance at redemption after news broke of Ogawa testing positive for a banned substance. In 2018, the 30-year-old Philadelphian capitalized on a second bite at the apple by defeating Billy Dib.
The former champion would enjoy a run of four successful title defenses before losing the championship against former featherweight title contender Diaz at the beginning of 2020. The American Idol had a rematch clause and wanted to regain his title. However, COVID-19 hit, killing any chance of a rematch taking place. During an interview with 3kingsboxing.com, he explained that team Diaz found a loophole and used it to get out of the rematch that should have taken place five months after the first fight.
KARMA CAN BE CRUEL
JoJo never got a chance to make a title defense. He came in weighing three and a half pounds overweight for his fight against unknown former IBO champion Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov. Furthermore, Diaz was coming off a thirteen-month layoff and it showed in his performance as the fight was declared a draw.
As of right now, the belt remains vacant since there was no winner. In addition, Diaz was also fined $100,000 from his purse. JoJo did not do himself any favors in the post-fight interview explaining the issues he had making weight.
“They don’t have no sauna here. They had me walking around my room with a fucking heater on. It was completely different to how a professional world title fight should be.”
“I’m not going to risk my life trying to make weight…There is no need to fucking please anybody.”
Farmer has a vested interest in getting back his title and was paying close attention to everything. He took to social media to throw shade at his former foe.
