Inoue becomes 3 division world champion in 16th fight
From the Ota-City Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan Naoya Inoue (16-0,14KO’s) became the WBA Bantamweight Champion destroying Jamie McDonnell (29-3-1-1ND,13KO’s) in the first round. McDonnell, who came weighing 144 pounds on fight night, never stood a chance against the methodical hard hitting monster.
Skills pays the bills and Inoue showed just why he’s one of best fighters in the world. A calm demeanor with a ferocious attack. He does beautiful body work, he just does all the little things well. McDonnell tried using his movement and couldn’t quite sit on his punches, due to his style of fighting his 5 inch reach advantage would not play any part in this bout.
Inoue came out the gate throwing hard shots to the head and body when he landed a beautiful left hook that staggered McDonnell. Shortly after that, Inoue hit McDonnell with a perfectly time body shot that dropped him.
McDonnell was pinned along the ropes where Inoue unleashed a ferocious attack to the head and body that dropped McDonnell to put a halt to the bout.
With the first round knockout Inoue became a 3 division champ, a remarkable feat if you take into consideration that he’s only had 80 amateur fights. The Monster from Japan just made it look easy, he simply showed up and showed out.
Next stop for Inoue is the WBSS Bantamweight Tournament, where he looks to make an even bigger name for himself. The ceiling is high for the young man who has been impressive basically since the beginning of his career. He is also my personal favorite going into the tournament.
There’s a Monster in the Far East and he is coming for the rest of the world.
