Thomas Chabot Defeats Matias Guenemil by Unanimous Decision
In an eight-round junior lightweight battle, prospect Thomas “The Ghost” Chabot (11-0, 8KO) picked up a solid win over Matias “El Carnicero” Guenemil (10-4-1, 5KO).
The Ghost came out in attack mode, stalking the Argentinian with hard shots to the body. He made it a war and repeatedly landed a power jab followed by a hard left hook. El Carnicero returned fire with that straight right-hand. He also took advantage of the Canadian’s over-aggressiveness to land hard shots to the body.
As the fight continued, Chabot should have gotten credited with a knockdown after landing a liver shot. However, the referee ruled it a low blow as Guenemil did a good job selling it. Despite suffering a cut from a clash of heads, Chabot fought like a video game character with unlimited energy. His combination of punching, body attacks, and relentless pressure had Guenemil hurt several times.
Guenemil still found some success with those sneaky right-hand countershots. Yet, he couldn’t avoid that left hook or uppercuts in the closing rounds. When the final bell sounded, one judge saw it 79-73 and two scored it 80-72, in favor of Chabot.
