Keith Thurman: You want us to focus on one guy?
Former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman (29-1, 22KOs) was challenged on why he and his fellow PBC welterweight counterparts have yet to step in the ring with Terence Crawford (36-0, 27KOs).
In an interview with Fight Nation, Thurman was pressed on why he, along with Errol Spence, Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia and Manny Pacquiao has been reluctant to square off with the WBO champion.
Crawford is generally considered a top three pound for pound fighter by most pundits.
“A lot of us are more flexible than Terence Crawford, okay? Like I just said, you want us to focus on one guy. It’s not my fault that I can fight Shawn, Danny, Pacquiao and Errol Spence and if I feel like it Mikey Garcia, Adrien Broner and Ugas!
You can go get one check! But if you really know boxing, most people call it the WB NO!”
Obviously, Thurman doesn’t feel the need to face Crawford for his own reasons, as he gave in the interview. While there’s plenty of legacy-enhancing fights for Thurman, none are any bigger than a fight with Errol Spence and Terence Crawford at this present time. To be fair, he’s yet to square off with Spence, who’s the unified champion, after being called out by the Texan way before he reached world title status.
Currently sidelined with yet another injury, everyone will have to wait and see what’s next on the docket for Thurman later in 2020. Let’s hope for a marquee name when he returns.
