A Fundora Fight To Go To the Tim Tszyu vs Vergil Ortiz Winner?

Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-1, 17KO) has a rumored upcoming showdown with Vergil Ortiz Jr. (20-0, 20KO). Should it happen, the bout risks his rematch against unified champion Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13KO).

The boxing news cycle is buzzing following an ESPN report that Ortiz Jr. and Tszyu may land on the undercard of Terence Crawford versus Israil Madrimov on August 3. Turki Alalshikh has made it clear that his only concern is delivering the fights that fans want to see, thus bringing boxing back to its days of glory.

HIGH RISK AND EVEN HIGHER REWARD

Fans should understand the significance of making this fight as The Soul Taker is fresh off losing the title to Fundora on March 30, and is risking the rematch if he is defeated. With the unified champion sidelined until November, the Aussie deserves a ton of respect for taking on such a tough opponent in the hard-punching contender.

Ortiz Jr. could land within an eyeshot of a title fight with a victory over the former champion. With the Texan ranking #6 (WBC) and #7 (WBO), both sanctioning bodies could make the fight a title eliminator. That means that Ortiz’s upcoming showdown with Thomas Dulorme, on April 27, just got even more interesting.

It shouldn’t surprise boxing fans that these two combatants are willing to face each other. After making a successful debut in the division, against Fredrick Lawson, Ortiz Jr. quickly called out Tszyu. Tszyu swiftly accepted the offer and was eager to face the undefeated knockout artist.

Ortiz Jr. should also get a lot of credit, considering that Tszyu was the champion during the callout. Despite there being no belt on the line, his willingness to take the fight shows character.
