Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events will collaborate in streaming fights over Facebook.
The deal involving Golden Boy includes a five fight card minimum which will stream for free on Facebook’s “video-on-demand” service. Also, bouts will be streamed over their personal Facebook page.
This isn’t the first time Golden Boy has done streaming. Not too long ago they would air undercard fights on their RingTv web site.
On August 11, Golden Boy will collaborate with Main Events to feature Jesus Rojas (26-1-2, 19 KOs) vs Joseph “JoJo” Diaz (26-1, 14 KOs). The fight will take place at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood.
On August 18, Main Events will host the return of Sullivan Barrera (21-2, 14 KOs) at the Sand Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Barrera is hoping to bounce back from a lost to WBA champion Dmitry Bivol back in March.
Also worth noting is the streaming contract Top Rank has with the ESPN+ app. For a small monthly fee you will have access to ESPN originals, along with great championship fights and behind the scenes special features.
Then of course you have Eddie Hearn signing a major deal with DAZN streaming service. This is already available in Japan, Germany and Canada, providing an even bigger audience platform for the global sport of boxing.
One thing is certain, boxing is getting a boost and streaming could be the new wave. The ability to reach a wider audience where people can see fights no matter where they are can only help the sport flourish.
