Kurbat Pulev to sign with Top Rank
Top heavyweight contender Kurbat Pulev (26-1, 13KO) has decided to align himself with promoting juggernaut Top Rank 3kingsboxing.com has learned. He revealed over social media on December 6 that he is flying to America to sign with the popular promotional company!
Pulev (37) has challenged for the heavyweight title once before back in 2014. He lost to then unified champion, Wladimir Klitschko via fifth round knockout. Recently, he won an IBF title eliminator against Hughie Fury in October.
While he’s considered the mandatory for the IBF, the title holder, Anthony Joshua, may not fight him. Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte, Jarrell Miller and Oleksandr Usyk are among some of the names the champion is exploring for his April 13 return.
However, understanding how strict the IBF is, Joshua may have to either defend against Pulev or risk being stripped.
This is an interesting move as Top Rank promotes or co-promotes some decent heavyweight contenders. Bryant Jennings, Andy Ruiz and former WBO champion Joseph Parker are all under the banner. If the Bulgarian is unable to uphold his mandatory status for a Joshua bout, there are some good possibilities for him to take within his new stable.
