Tyson Fury will not return to the ring until 2021
For WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO’s), fighting before the end of 2020 was a big deal. This was his rationale for abandoning his trilogy bout with Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO’s). However, as reported by Michael Benson, his December 5 prizefight with Agit Kabayel (20-0, 13 KO’s) is no longer taking place.
WHY NO RUMBLE?
Currently, there is no explanation for why the bout was canceled. Some are taking this to mean that the arbitration that Wilder initiated to save the trilogy is going well. If this is the case, then there should presumably be some big announcements right around the corner. Then there are those who are adhering to a much more practical conclusion.
Like the US, the UK is suffering from a surge of the coronavirus cases and therefore is currently on lockdown. Given this reality, now would be just about the most inopportune time to stage a major sporting event. Thusly, it would make perfect sense to forego any plans of staging a fight before the end of the year; especially, when the bout would be little more than a ‘stay busy’ excursion.
Regardless of what has transpired behind the scenes, the only thing known for sure is that Fury will not fight again until 2021. In any case, 3kingsboxing.com will continue to cover the situation and provide any and all updates.
