Oleksandr Usyk Wants Ruiz-Joshua 2 Winner

Oleksandr Usyk successfully dispatched fringe contender Chazz Whitherspoon over the course of seven rounds in his US debut. Now, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion has turned his attention to Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua.

Currently, both Ruiz and Joshua busy preparing for their upcoming mega rematch. Their bout will take place on December 7 in Saudi Arabia. However, that hasn’t stopped Usyk from already putting the winner on notice that he wants next. He spoke on the matter of his next opponent in the post-fight press conference.

“It’s not a question for me it’s a question for Eddie, whatever he can bring to me.”

“But if it were up to me, I probably will pick up the winner of Joshua-Ruiz.”

His response isn’t surprising, as he’s longed for an opportunity to face Anthony Joshua. However, in the case he’s not able to secure the winner of Ruiz-Joshua 2, the prospects of his next fight are still very good.

A fight for the vacant WBO title seems just as likely for Usyk, potentially against Joseph Parker. Parker once held that title before losing it to Anthony Joshua in their unification bout in 2017. He currently ranks number 4 in the WBO rankings.

WBO number 2 Tyson Fury will face Deontay Wilder in a rematch, barring an upset by Luis Ortiz on November 23. That, for the time being, takes him out of the picture. Joshua could fight Usyk if he were to regain his titles from Ruiz. However, I think he’d go the safer route and satisfy his IBF mandatory against Kurbat Pulev.

It’s evident that regardless of what happens next, the prospects of a big fight for Oleksandr Usyk are pretty good.
