Rey Vargas looking to return in December on HBO
WBC super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas is planning a ring return for December according to his promoter Oswaldo Küchle.
This return could take place on the Jaime Munguia HBO televised card on December 1. Likewise, it could take place December 15 on Canelo Alvarez vs Rocky Fielding card.
The opponent possible opponent is #6 ranked Franklin Manzanilla (18-4, 17KOs). He’s coming off a fourth round stoppage over Julio Ceja in May.
Vargas has been inactive since winning a controversial unanimous decision over Azat Hovhannisyan in May. His next bout will mark his fourth attempt at defending the WBC title.
Assuming he gets by Manzanilla, Vargas will likely have to make a mandatory title defense at the top of the year. The winner of the Tomoki Kameda and Abigail Medina bout on November 12 for the interim WBC title will be the front-runner.
