Jessie Vargas Has an Eye on Jermell Charlo Showdown
On April 30, former welterweight boxer Jessie “The Pride of Las Vegas” Vargas (29-3-2, 11 KO’s) will attempt his first foray into the super welterweight division. When he does, Vargas will face the challenge of one-time world champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (30-1-1, 17 KO’s). Despite the newness of this upcoming endeavor, Vargas is more than confident that he will take care of business come fight night.
Provided that the Pride of Las Vegas is successful, he has some ideal fights that he would like to take on. One such bout would come against the winner of the Jermell Charlo versus Brian Castano match which will crown the undisputed champion of the division. Clearly though, of the two, Vargas appears to have his mind set a bit more toward facing Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KO’s).
“I think it’s a good fight, I know Charlo very well. He’s very talented, I think he takes it, he takes the fight and then possibly after that maybe we will talk about a possible fight between him and I. I mean a fight to be unified world champion, I love the opportunity to be in that position. So hopefully that’s something we can get into talks after this.”
LOCKED AND LOADED
Before Vargas gets too lost in dreams about future title fights, he must first take care of business on April 30 against Liam Smith. Luckily for him, Vargas feels that he is more than prepared to meet the challenge. Now, there is nothing left for either man to do but put up or shut up!
“I’m looking forward to it! I’ve prepared extremely well. I’ve had three training camps in one, right. I mean I have had a long layoff. Its been a little over two years but again, I’ve had three training camps to prepare for this fight between May and then again in February right, which got postponed and now April 30. So I am fresh, I am ready, I’m excited, I’m eager to get back in there and he [Liam Smith] really fired me up!”
