Vito Mielnicki and Connor Coyle Stage Closely-Contested Battle

In what was an entertaining contest, Vito Mielnicki Jr (20-1-1, 12 KOs) and Connor Coyle (21-0-1, 9 KOs) fought to a majority-decision draw (96-94 Mielnicki, 95-95, 95-95) at Madison Square Garden Theater in
New York City.

A Mielnicki right-hand buzzed Coyle in the last minute of round two. However, Coyle bounced back. During rounds three and four, he began to work his jab and connect with hard combinations to the head and breadbasket.

The heated action continued in the middle rounds. Just when it seemed that Mielnicki seemed to take control, Coyle would fire back with his right hand and uppercuts. Mielnicki was the younger man, and his energy and pace started to take its toll. Coyle was all heart, but he was visibly fatigued and fighting on tired legs during the last two rounds.

While the official verdict was a draw, this reporter felt that Mielnicki did enough to get the victory. Given the closeness of the contest, a rematch later this year could be likely.
