Walker Has Options After Stopping Taylor
In a battle for the British welterweight title, Conah “The Wolf” Walker (16-3-1, 7KO) retained the title by stopping veteran Liam “Dynamo” Taylor (28-3-1, 14KO) in six. A fight with “The Real Deal” Paddy Donovan (14-1, 11KO) or a rematch with Lewis “The Croc” Crocker could be next.
From the opening bell, The Wolf put Dynamo on the backfoot by coming forward with hard shots. In addition, his ability to apply pressure while landing shots to the body hurt Taylor early.
Yet Taylor wasn’t done and came firing back, landing good counter shots. He did a good job of taking advantage of Walker’s head remaining on the centerline. It was a back-and-forth battle before Walker landed a picture-perfect counter-left hook that dropped Taylor. The referee waved off the fight after reaching the count of ten in the sixth round. This is arguably the biggest win of Walker’s career on the domestic level.
With this victory, it’s time to look and see what’s next. A fight with ranked fighter Donovan is a good fight that can happen. Walker could even look to rematch Crocker.
Some boxing fans feel the point deduction for low blows cost him the victory. With all three guys fighting under the Matchroom Boxing banner either fight should be easy to make.
