Jaime Munguia v Sergiy Derevyanchenko next?
A fight between top ten middleweight contenders could be on the horizon. The WBC ordered unbeaten former WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (37-0, 30KOs) and three-time middleweight world title challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-3, 10KOs) to fight in a final title eliminator.
Munguia is coming off a six -round stoppage victory over Kamil Szeremeta in June. He currently ranks number one in the WBC and WBO rankings and number four in the IBF and WBA. The hard-hitting former Mexican champion is in a favorable situation as title shots are within his grasp. However, he’s been hellbent on facing longtime middleweight contender Gabe Rosado.

As for Derevyanchenko, the Ukrainian contender would like nothing more than to get in the ring with Munguia. A win would clinch him his fourth world title opportunity and a possible rematch with the WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo. He lost to Charlo back in September of 2020 and hasn’t fought since.
If made, this fight has potential to be very entertaining. Munguia is all power and action. On the opposite end is Derevyanchenko who’s more of a slick boxer with good power and defense. Ranked one and two respectively in the WBC standings, Munguia and Derevyanchenko should be relishing the opportunity to secure a title opportunity for 2022.
