The match-ups for the light welterweight WBSS tournament has been announced!
The top four seeding for the eight man tournament are arranged as follows:
- Regis Prograis
- Josh Taylor
- Kiryl Relikh
- Ivan Baranchyk
Regis Prograis is the top man coming off of a eighth round TKO victory over Juan Velasco recently. He will be taking on former WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan.
Josh Taylor turned in a sensational victory over Viktor Postol by unanimous decision in June. He will face undefeated American Ryan Martin (22-0, 12KO).
Martin would be the Cinderella story of the tournament as he is the least known participant.
Kiryl Relikh is known for arguably two respectable wins against the talented Rances Barthelmy. Currently the WBA champion, he will face Eduard Troyanovsky.
Troyanovsky is the former IBF champion, dethroned by a first round knockout loss to Julius Indongo.
Ivan Baranchyk (18-0, 11KO) is the last of the top seeds. He is currently ranked #2 for the vacant IBF title. He will face IBF ranked #3, Anthony Yigit (21-0-1, 7KO). This matchup will possibly be for the vacant IBF title.
Missing in action is WBO Champion Maurice Hooker and WBC champion Jose Ramirez.
Hooker committed to the WBSS shortly after defeating Terry Flanagan in June. However, he has since reneged and is expected to face mandatory Alex Saucedo.
Although the results of this tournament will not name an undisputed champion, we still have some great matchups.
