Where is Robert Easter Jr?
Oftentimes in boxing, talented fighters rise to the cusp of becoming a household name and then plummet over the course of time. That seems to be the case with former IBF lightweight champion Robert “E-Bunny” Easter Jr (23-1-1, 14KOs). The 5’11 Toledo, Ohio native has been out of the ring since his February 2021 unanimous decision victory over Ryan Martin.
Easter Jr arrived on the scene with an explosive fifth round TKO victory over former IBF junior lightweight champion Argenis Mendez back in 2016. In the aftermath, he would face former IBF lightweight champion Richard Commey for the vacant IBF title in September 2016. After a thrilling fight, he would be named the winner via a split decision. E-Bunny would go on to make three successful title defenses before losing to Mikey Garcia in their July 2018 WBC and IBF lightweight unification bout.
After the defeat, he would migrate up to the junior welterweight division and take on former champion Rances Barthelemy in one of the most unentertaining fights in recent memory. The fight would end in a split draw. Easter would return to the win column with a unanimous decisions over Adrián Granados and the aforementioned Ryan Martin.
Since then, there has been no word about him returning to the ring. The most recent news involving him was when he was robbed and shot three times back in February. In the aftermath of the shooting, he underwent surgery, but was given positive prognosis on making a full recovery. Easter Jr is likely rebuilding not only his physical shape back, but also his mental health as well. Hopefully by the time he returns to the ring, he is fully recovered.
