Wilder continues to make his case for trilogy with Fury
There is no doubt that former heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO’s) is serious about obtaining his trilogy bout. However, since his rematch with WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO’s), he has done himself no favors.
First, he went into a media blackout for the better part of year only to reemerge claiming he was cheated. He has accused the Gypsy King of tampering with his gloves and placing blunt objects inside. Wilder even went so far as to say one of his own trainers, Mark Breland, drugged his water. As result of all these allegations, Fury has vowed never to fight the Bomber again.
HAVE YOU NO HONOR?!
Despite the WBC champion claiming the bout is done forever, Wilder is still pressing the issue. On the one hand, he is attempting to get the fight done by using a third party mediator. And on the other hand, he has attempted to appeal to Fury’s sense of honor. The Bronze Bomber recently reminded Fury that he provided him life-altering opportunities twice without an obligation to do so.
ONE SHAKY STRATEGY
While this is certainly a fact, the plea is still rather odd. Wilder appears to be appealing to Fury’s sense of honor and uprightness. At the same time however, Wilder is accusing Fury of duplicitous activity worthy of criminal charges.
If the Bomber believes these things, then he inherently has to think the Gypsy King is wholly without honor. So why would an underhanded and unscrupulous cheater respond to pleas of fair play? The tweet itself shows just how tightly tucked in a corner Wilder is while trying to get this fight. Let us wait and see what happens with the mediation, but things definitely are not looking good for Team Wilder.
