Deontay Wilder Predicts a Short Night Against Joseph Parker
Former WBC champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) returns to the ring on December 23 to face former WBO champion Joseph Parker (33-3, 23 KOs) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Wilder believes he’s taking care of Parker quickly and explosively.
HAVING NO WORRIES
Wilder has been out of action since a first-round knockout over Robert Helenius in October 2022. After such a lengthy layoff, some in the boxing community wonder if ring rust could be an issue for Wilder heading into his upcoming battle against Parker. But during an interview with TMZ Sports, The Bronze Bomber said that’s not going to be the case.
“I’m expecting to be very fresh. I’m expecting to be intact. I’ve got a great team on my side, and we’re looking for greatness, nothing less.”
If resumé matters, Parker is one of the most accomplished opponents of Wilder’s career. He’s on a three-fight winning streak and coming off a third-round stoppage over Simon Kean in October 2023. The former WBO belt-holder has the tools to provide Wilder with one of his toughest challenges.
WHAT’S AT STAKE
With a reputation as one of the hardest punchers in boxing history, Wilder loves to put on a show for the fans. He plans on giving the viewing public more thrills against Parker. When asked what round he thinks he can knock Parker out in, the Alabama native gave this chilling prediction.
“Early, early. You don’t wanna blink.”
The Bronze Bomber must be on point. A win sets up a likely showdown against two-time unified champion Anthony Joshua. Word on the street is that the potential Wilder versus Joshua fight would occur in March 2024.
