Zepeda Overcomes Adversity To Score SD Win Over Farmer
In a lightweight showdown, William “Camaron” Zepeda (32-0, 27KO) overcame adversity to win a narrow split decision over Tevin “2X” Farmer (33-7-1, 8KO).
El Camaron succeeded early because Farmer made the critical mistake of not moving and staying in the pocket. He landed hard shots to the body and counter uppercuts while fighting on the front foot.
2X listened to the corner and went to Zepeda’s body. He landed solid power shots that put the young title challenger on the backfoot. In the fourth round, the former IBF junior lightweight champion landed a counter left hand that dropped the Mexican.
The urgency from Camaron’s corner could be heard throughout the arena. Over the next few rounds, he went on a vicious body attack that slowed down Farmer’s movement and punch output.
In the closing rounds, Farmer looked spent but continued to throw hard punches until the final bell. Zepeda found another gear and fought like a buzzsaw machine with a relentless body attack.
When the final bell sounded, one judge gave it to Farmer 95-94, with the other two scoring it for Zepeda 95-94. Now the WBC interim champion, it will be interesting to see if they fight WBC champion Shakur Stevenson, as promoted, in 2025.
