William Zepeda Devastates Maxi Hughes With a Body Assault
In a WBA and IBF lightweight title eliminator, William “Camaron” Zepeda (30-0, 25KO) beat down Maxi “Maximus” Hughes (26-7-2, 5KO) en route to a fourth-round stoppage.
Camaron came out marching forward behind the jab, stalking Hughes. As the early rounds passed by, the body attack of the undefeated Mexican began depleting the British opponent’s energy.
Maximus tried to fight back by landing a couple of countershots. Yet, the top-rated title contender was relentless and attacked the body with supreme aggression.
At the end of round four, a visibly diminished Hughes stumbled back to the corner and sat motionless on the stool. His corner had seen enough and signaled the referee to stop the fight. Zepeda jumped on the ropes in front of a roaring Las Vegas crowd that had gotten their money’s worth.
Ranked #1 (WBC, WBA), #3 (WBO), and #6 (IBF), the undefeated Mexican is ready to challenge for a world title. Golden Boy Promoter Oscar De La Hoya likes the idea of his fighter challenging the WBC champion Shakur Stevenson.
Zepeda expressed an interest in taking on the WBA champion Abdul Wahid, formerly Gervonta Davis. It will be interesting to see which champion they decide to target first.
