Is the Williams v Hurd Rematch Nearing Completion?
Although as yet unconfirmed, it would appear that the newly crowned IBF, IBO and WBA super welterweight world champion Julian “J-Rock” Williams has gifted former champion Jarrett “Swift” Hurd (23-1, 16 KO’s) a rematch. This speculation took life via a random thread on Twitter.
In responding to a tweet, Williams’ chief second, Stephen “Breadman” Edwards, flat out said that Team Williams had already agreed to a rematch in November. Obviously, this single line by itself leaves much to the imagination. Nevertheless, Edwards has always carried himself with high integrity within the industry and is not known for giving into gossip or spin-doctoring. If he said, in this very public format, that there was a fight target date in November, then there is a very good chance that this is bonafide fact.
Sooner or Later…
However, if for some reason the fight doesn’t take place specifically in November, this tweet seems to indicate that the boxing public will be granted the immediate rematch. Less than two weeks ago, “J-Rock” and “Swift” battled in an easy lead candidate for Fight of the Year. Following twelve rounds of sensational back and forth action, Williams did more than enough to usurp Hurd via unanimous decision.
The rumble with Hurd was Williams’ second attempt at a world title. In his first shot, he suffered a heart-breaking knockout loss to Jermall Charlo, on December 12, 2016. After the sudden early round flattening, many throughout the boxing industry wrote Williams off. Regardless of what the naysayers professed, “J-Rock” stuck to his grind. Eventually, he worked his way back up the rankings, later defeating super welterweight wrecking ball Jarret Hurd in magnificent fashion.
On that fateful night, while still in the ring, Williams assured Hurd that if he wanted a chance to get his titles back he would grant him one. By the looks of this tweet, “J-Rock” is continuing to be a man of his word.
Let’s hope this does come to fruition because Williams v Hurd 2 would be a guaranteed all-action fight!

I don’t see it as a FOY candidate. To me it was too one-sided and I must be honest…. Williams May have ruined Hurd!
